How large are the bottles?

The half-gallon bottles are 10 1/2" long and 4 3/4" wide.  They display on their side with the neck pointing left.

How do I get my printed memento (e.g., business card) to you?

You have the option to upload a JPEG file of the card image during the ordering process using this form. If you don’t have access to a color scanner, Staples, Kinko’s or any similar business can create a JPEG file for you. Or you can mail the actual card to us. Email the file to Castoffships@Gmail.com, or mail the actual piece to Castoff Ships, 508 Dark Star Circle, Havre de Grace, Md. 21078. Please include your order number.

If I can’t upload my printed memento, can I mail it?

How long will it take to get my bottle from the time I place my order?

Building customized ships is a careful process, but we shoot for a three-week turnaround time (from start to ship).

Are the ships really built inside the bottle? Is there some sort of trickery involved?

The bottles are made to hold liquids and remain intact. The ships are designed to be built inside the bottle. We do not alter the glass bottles in any way.  Everything in the bottle passes through the throat.

If I want to have a ship built out of a keepsake like my old wedding invitation, do I have to give up my only copy of my heirloom?

Absolutely not! We can work from a scanned color copy of your invitation. Just have it scanned and converted to a JPEG file, and we will work from there.

What is your return policy?

If you are not satisfied with your ship, you may return it for a full refund.

What happens if my bottle arrives damaged?

You can either get a full refund or have us build another ship. We ask that you provide us with a photo of the damaged bottle.

How many characters can I include on the engraved brass plate?

Our standard plate (1.25" x 2.5") will handle a maximum of three lines and 18 characters per line at a 13 font. You may upgrade for $6.00 to a larger plate (3.5" X 2.0") that will handle up to four lines, 18 characters per line at an 18.6 font. We also have the ability to put symbols or logos on the plates as well, but this will limit the number of characters available. You also have the option to obtain your own engraved plate that you can install once your ship arrives. View samples » You should contact us at Castoffships@gmail.com if you want a larger plate.

How long do I have to make changes to or cancel my order from the time it is placed?

The artwork is the first step, and once that starts, we will not be able to cancel the order. As far as changes, let us know, and if it is possible to make the change, we will do so.

Do you offer a discount for multiple orders?

We do offer discounts for multiple orders. The discount amount depends on the volume you order.

Do you offer a shipping discount for multiple orders?

We do offer a shipping discount for multiple orders as long as the bottles can be shipped together in the same box.

Does my purchase price benefit charity in any way?

Castoff Ships is dedicated to serving the broader needs of our community. Humanim, a non-profit organization that employs special-needs adults, provides the base labor for every ship.
